Had the pleasure of seeing +Michaela McClain  perform live a few nights ago at The Crossroads in Garwood, NJ.   It didn't take much more than her intro and the first few moments of her performance to sum it all up for me: It was as if someone took Norah Jones and Corinne Bailey Rae, and introduced them to a double dose of fun.

Last Walk of the Mountain Man

    I've spent a good part of the last decade or so wandering a few places in the southern Adirondacks of New York State and have met some really great people.  A friend of mine, Greg, who owns Atateka Lodges in Chestertown, would always tell me stories of this old gent that he knew from years ago.  While riding around locally, he had pointed out what looked like a small shanty on a hillside of property on a quiet road....it was slowly falling to pieces, but not enough to give the impression that it wasn't cared for the best the owner could.  You could still see an old car with some odd attachments alongside the house, and there were some small remnants of plantings.  As a teen Greg had sold his car to Bradley for about $300, and though he didn't ever drive, he figured he could use the body as ahousi... more »

Something worth sharing...

If anyone would like to help the Red Cross efforts in NJ, this 20x30 canvas print is being raffled for the price of $5 a ticket.. All proceeds are for the Red Cross, and we were lucky enough to obtain sponsors that would match all cash donations...Coke and Weather Channel.

Yesterday, we were able to send a truckload of food, clothing and water to Union Beach, NJ...one of the hardest hit areas regarding entire loss of homes.....

Very proud to have met (if only through your car window) all those that stopped a moment to donate cash and say a kind word.  Your kindness has been unbelievable!  

As for my internet friends that were so gracious to use the below link to purchase a raffle ticket..... you're the best!

In memory of a place so dear to many yet changed forever, this abstract piece taken from a beach now washed away, will be on display at Destino Lounge this weekend, to be raffled off. It's a 20"x30" canvas stretched print, and it's a one of a kind by John Nandor.

Swept Away

Hello all of my friends here on G+ .....while the majority of my friends and family are safe...many are still without power and some without heat here in central New Jersey.

While I've seen and have been told of quite a few acts of uncaring and inhumanity, I know that there are many folks out there who have done the most that they can to help others.  There is a weekend-long item collection and fundraiser (Red Cross) I am participating in this weekend and I am donating the image below to be raffled off.  The finished piece is a 20" x 30" stretch canvas.  If you know anyone in the central NJ area that would like to take a chance and stop by the event, please share this post or link anywhere you'd like:

Suspense

This one is an oldie-but-goodie favorite of mine from about 15 years ago... I remember now that it was rainy all day.  I was disappointed that scenic vistas were a wash... so I decided I would size down my scope of view and look for some random bits of color and interest.  

This was shot at Red Falls, NY, in the Catskill Mountain region.  The falls are the bits of white in the background, and I never even took a shot of them as they were so flat with mist and too strong of a rush.  Good thing I stopped and took a closer look :)

Just wanted to share this album again.....well that's not accurate, I want to share it with so many of the new wonderful followers I've come to know and share things with over this past year.  Many of these images were posted when I had but a few hundred followers and now that I have well over 10K of you kind folks viewing my work, I wanted to say thank you and invite you to make any of these reflections to be your autumn wallpaper....

While I understand that so many of us are struggling to sell prints or get recognized, I'm arriving at a point where I think I'd rather know my work made someone gasp or sigh, or maybe put a simple smile on their face when they have the chance to glimpse one of my images full of color and joy.

Sometimes the heart of the matter is best viewed from a distance...

We spent this past weekend travelling in the Catskill Mountains of New York.  Much to my surprise, booking a place in the heart of this region didn't afford any of the vast views I'm used to in the Adirondacks....luckily, from the parking lot of Kaaterskill Falls there was a quick glimpse of the mountains we had just circled through by car.  Sure there were quiet colorful roads to wander to soothe the soul, but the best vantage points seem to be in the surrounding hilltowns, well out of the Park's borders....

So...... Have you been to the Catskills?  If so, do you have a favorite scenic road or hike you like to take?  Let's talk about it!

Who knows what I could be missing

So you're sitting in the classroom at about 11 years of age and usually being a good student and well behaved, you find yourself not paying attention....only it's not you who realizes this at the time, but your teacher.  So, you get scolded here and there for a few weeks and eventually wind up sitting in the front of the class.  It takes a few more days of you seeming uninterested all of a sudden, but then something scribbled on the chalkboard doesn't seem so clear and finally, the teacher notices that you might be squinting.

"I think you need to go see the nurse..." could only mean that they had figured it out....it was time for glasses.  So you dread the visit, knowing you'll be directed to cover one eye and the other, trying to read from a chart of incongruous letters, only to be advised with a note for yourfo... more »
