1072 images were taken to make this high resolution multi focus panorama of a hibiscus flower. It's something like a 10x5 grid and at each part of the grid, I took a photo, changed the focus, took another, and so on in order to get the entire depth of field in focus.
End result, can print it 10 feet wide and still see all the detail

Tulip fields.
The blurring of the litle highlights and shadow details, intensifies how we perceive the color.

Yesterday's photo of the tulip farm was to give context to the forthcoming series of abstract photos made from the rows of tulips.

do the eyes that look down on our snowglobe, see a glowing shimmering dance of green and magenta, or are they used to the sight, and see it as a tourist chotchke they bought to remember the big bang?
The 8mm fisheye shows 180 degrees of the sky. This is one frame of a timelapse I did in Iceland last month.

This panorama was taken in southeast iceland. When the radiation from the solar storms hit further north than you, the northern lights appear as a line across the northern horizon.#landscapephotography #WideWednesdayPanorama

Icebergs, on a beach, underneath the northern lights. It doesn't get much more surreal than that for a california kid.

960GB SSD for only $599!!! Amazon now has it for preorder, supposed to be shipping momentarily.
This will replace my goflex 1.5TB external drives in my on the road workflow. Yes the SSD is still expensive but less than half the price it was for 1tb sized before this drive.
Still 5x more expensive than hard drives, but the SSD is more than 5x as fast, esepcially when dealing with lightroom preview files.
It's only 7mm high so you could replace your internal notebook drive with this.

The lego mosaic occupies a large wall in the gallery. It's made from about 3000 lego minifigures and is 4 feet wide by about 6 feet tall. I photographed each individual piece, and wrote a program that put out a spreadsheet that told me how to assemble the final piece.

Diamond on the rough.
This is a mini iceberg that floated out of iceland's iceberg lagoon and ended up back on the dark sand beach.

With a barrier of rocks we protect ourselves from the waves, but then all it takes is a little drop to make ripples in the calm.

Big cards vs. Many small cards
128GB CF for $170 64GB COMPACT FLASH FOR $85
One of the many arguments/religions of serious photographers is whether to use many small memory cards (these days 8gb or 16gb) or a few big cards.
Today Amazon is having a sale on 128GB compact flash and 64gb compact flash made by brand name Lexar (tho they are 400x rather than the fastest 1000x)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/discussion/A255GY6XQM6GKK/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_gb_eSE3qb0RN6FEN
Here's my take on the big vs. small cards
MISSING A SHOT vs. SMALL CHANCE OF LOSING ALL SHOTS
Murphy's law guarantees your memory card will be empty at the critical moment. Any time you are shooting action you have the chance to miss the decisive moment. Yes, can change the card early but then you need that many more small cards and increase your risk of losing one.
