Drink and Click ™ YEG153Please meet at the front entrance of the Commerical Hotel on Whyte Ave at 6:00 pm.  I will be the one standing there with 3 lovely ladies who have agreed to model for us for the evening.  I am proposing to start off at the Blues on Whyte Pub and then proceed for a photowalk while it is still light.  We can then go back to the Blues on Whyte Pub or a different venue of our choosing for some drinks and eats then proceed with a further photowalk and repeat for as long as we wish.  Hope to see you all there.  Should you need to find us, please call or text me (Dawn) on my cell at 780-717-6245.  Bring lighting gear like flash as we will be photographing after sundown and possibly in an alley with lots of graffiti. So come prepared. Sorry for the confusion over multiple events - THIS is the correct one! Drink & Click YEG October "Shadow" Event (the RIGHT event is this one!)2013-10-05 18:00:0037
Justin Wondga11,853Feel free to invite others to this event! #yegfirespin We have insurance covered! Edmonton City Hall loves us! We have fire permit covered! Edmonton Fire Department loves us! I'm very happy to announce that after *nearly 2 months' worth of planning*, many e-mails, phone calls and meetings.... ....we are GREENLIT to do a firespin stunt at Edmonton City Hall Pool! Woo-hoo! We need photographers! If you have a camera that can do long-exposure in low light, grab your tripod, bring your gear and come shoot the stunt! It will look AWESOME in your portfolio! I'm not kidding- if your dSLR, compact or point-and-shoot camera can do an exposure as long as 15 seconds and has manual settings for aperture, range and focus, you can shoot this! Bring your wide-angle lenses if you have them! Film shooters, I would recommend the lowest ISO film you can get. We need volunteers! We need only 8 (eight) people (2 on each corner of the pool) to keep photobombers and curious people at a safe distance from the firespin! So, let this public event go viral - please tell your friends, please forward the invite, and then have them tell their friends, and so on, and so on.... ...we hope to see you there! We need all the support we can get! Thank you!FireSpin at City Hall!2013-09-12 21:00:0053

Lake Night

So, it's been some time since I posted a photo. Figured I would check and see if I still got it. This is an older photo that until recently I figured was garbage because it was too dark. I learned a new process that combines Lightroom and Photoshop and was able to make something out of it.

Smoke Manipulation

It's been awhile since I've done any work like this. I have to try to come up with new ideas in order to keep making stuff like this. I don't like doing the same kind of work over and over. My goal here was to create a three dimensional representation from a two dimensional photograph. Using light and shadow to create the appearance of depth is probably one of my favorite things to do.

Let me know what you think.

Feel free to comment and/or share!

Happy New Year 2015 to my family and friends.

The last few years my friend +Karl Stevens and I have held a tradition of photographing the first sunrise of the new year. At 8:55am on January 1st of 2015 we photographed the first sunrise as it came up behind the Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh (Sikh Temple) which is located a short drive north of Edmonton.

This marks the dawn of a new day in a new year. May all of you have a wonderful year filled full of joy and love.

In the immortal words of The Doors: "You know the day destroys the night,
Night divides the day"

Peace be with you!

Merry Christmas to all my family and friends.

I would like to take a moment to share my Christmas spirit.

When a person does something good to you, be it holding a door open or helping you when your car is stuck or won't start, do you ask them which faith they practice or concern yourself with what race they are? Odds are you don't.

However, the world is now asking those very questions when anyone does something wrong. Why? Because the media is. The media is creating terror, hate and prejudice. It doesn't matter if the bad people are black or white, Muslim or Christian. Evil is evil. And evil is very real. You don't have to believe in God to see that evil exists.

So spread love and joy this Christmas to everyone. Use your love and joy as a weapon to fight evil. Then after Christmas continue to spread your love and joy everyday.

The cure is you!

The red poppy!

The last few years I have heard rumblings of people trying to change the colour of the poppy we wear on Remembrance Day! First of all I would like to state this simply and clearly for all to understand. It's not up to you!

Now here is why it's not up to you.

The red poppy is a a flower that grew in France. It so happened that a Canadian doctor after laying his fallen comrades to rest noticed these poppies were growing on the graves of the fallen. This doctor went on and wrote a poem about what he saw. That poem "In Flanders Fields" was a dedication honouring his fallen comrades. That poem and the red poppy became a way for those that lost to remember. It was created and shared by those that survived the horrors of war so they could remember those that didn't.

That poem and the red poppy became a way for those that lost to remember. It was created and shared by those that survived the horrors of war so they could remember those that didn't.

Eventually soldiers around the world embraced this method of honouring their fallen. It's a brotherhood and a sisterhood. It's a bond between those that have fought together. Always remembering the price of war.

Some say we should wear a white poppy. To symbolize peace. I say to those people you do not understand the meaning of the red poppy. It is not a symbol of war. It is a symbol of life. Your life. Because without the men and women that died to bring peace to this world you may not live today. Many of those that died did so in France. Many had poppies grow on their graves. Those poppies were red.

From death comes life. Their sacrifice and the sacrifices of mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters that sent their kin off to war changed our world. The red poppy is also a symbol of our duty. That duty being to make this world that they so bravely fought for better. We do this by remembering the mistakes of the generations that came before us. We do this by remembering that the cost of war isn't measured in dollars but in lives.

The red poppy wasn't chosen by politicians or civilians. It was chosen by soldiers. The soldiers, that have fought in war, have the right to decide how to honour their friends. Not those that sit safe in their homes because of the sacrifice of others.

No, I say unto you.

It's not up to you!

I will always remember.

I will always wear a red poppy.

Feel free to jump in and share what you think.

I'm reading today that Canadian warplanes are bombing targets in Iraq. First thing that pops into my head "umm why Iraq?" I read on. The news article states that the targets are to cripple ISIS means for funding their military campaign. Is it just me or does this sound moronic to you too? If it doesn't let me ask you this. If these terrorists are making all this money to fund their war who the fuck is selling them the weapons? Seriously, there are only a few countries that make them. The USA, Russia, China and Germany make the big stuff. Sure some other countries make them but not ones that would sell to terrorists. So, wouldn't it make sense to stop selling them weapons? Just a thought.

People, we are being misled. Stop the corruption.

So here are 5 random things about me.

1) You wouldn't know it by looking at me but when I was 18 I had a gas stove explode in my face. I suffered 3rd degree burns on my face with my nose and lips taking the worst of it. Over half the hair on my head was burned off.
Fearing that doctors would make me look like the Elephant man I did not seek out medical attention. Instead I treated my burns myself. There is currently no evidence of my face ever being burned.

2) When I was 12 I lived in Kelowna, BC. Our house was 20 minutes away from a ski hill. In the winter I would ski nearly every day. I enjoyed downhill racing. So much so that I decided to try out for the Canadian National Junior Ski team. 3) At 19 while serving in the Canadian Forces as a supply tech I was given the responsibility of transporting a large amount of equipment from one base to another. Included in this equipment were several tanks, trucks and other vehicles as well as weapons and ammunition. After the squad that was assigned to me completed the task I was asked by my commanding officer how it felt to be responsible for 15 million dollars of equipment. My response was just a gasp.

4) My mind is always busy. If I'm not inventing something in my head I'm defending the world against zombies or just plain conquering the world. This goes far beyond daydreaming as I have detailed plans in my head. This is the usual cause for my insomnia.

5) I am a highly spiritual person. I don't believe in any one religion or faith. I believe in them all. Over the years I've tried to learn everything I can about every religion. Mostly focused on the primaries but every now and then I will investigate others.

To continue the spirit of this post I'm tagging +Carlos F. Lange and +Stephen Paskaluk to tell #5randomthings about themselves.

And.... I told you so!

These diversionary tactics are so easy for someone like me to detect. But sadly people think I'm crazy when I talk about conspiracy.

I urge everyone to understand one thing. Terrorism is created by the rich and powerful. It is not the poor and weak. Terrorism exists to control you through fear.

It's time to open your eyes and your mind.

Oh by the way, I'm probably considered a terrorist by the Harper government now.

السلام عليكم

Pronounced:

As-salamu alaykum

Arabic

Translated to English it means "peace be upon you"

This is the standard Arab and Muslim greeting.

I bring this to your attention because a friend said to me "every time I see Arabic writing I think it has something to do with terrorism" and "it could say something good but I see bad".

This is what the media has done to us. Arabic is one of the oldest languages still being used today. The reason it sounds gritty and dirty to us might just be because its over 2000 years older than English.

Remove hate by removing the ignorance that creates it.

Peace be upon you my friends

Hello Canada! My name is David Waddington and I am a Canadian landscape photographer residing in Edmonton, Alberta. I have a dream of travelling across our beautiful country and capturing it in all it's glory.
I'm asking you for your help. Help in finding those beautiful locations. If you could leave comments as to great views and vistas as well as the best time of year to visit. I'm 47 and have been in about half the country. Unfortunately not further east than Toronto. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Photos of said locations would be awesome too.

This is not an incoherent ranting of someone that has been mistreated by the world. This is an appeal to the greater sensitivity of a civilized people.

I am a middle aged white male that has lived a multicultural life. My grandmother and mother taught me the basic principle of all human beings being created equal. It didn't take long for me to learn that most of the other kids didn't learn this. I have known since I was about 7 years old that racism, prejudice, and hatred are taught. As humans we are not born with hate but some of us are born into it. For me life was about tolerance. It doesn't matter what colour you are or what religion you practice. There are extremists and pacifists for each race and each religion. You might think that one race is really stupid but believe me they are only a fraction of the whole. Just as you and those you know are only a fraction of the whole. Each race and religion have those that are brilliant, creative, and inspiring. Most people don't see them because they make the choice not to.

My appeal to you is to is to make the choice to know every side of a situation or story. Don't believe everything you read and take time to investigate. Hate, prejudice and racism are products of ignorance. If you choose to be ignorant then the only one you can blame is yourself.

Knowledge is more than just power. It gives you freedom and teaches you respect. Human beings are an intelligent species but many of them choose not to be. The worlds borders are nothing more than a line on the map because the internet allows information to travel freely from one nation to another. Most of us have a choice to learn. For some, poverty takes this choice away.

I'm not hear to tell you what is right or what is wrong. I am just telling you what is. I do what I can to promote change for what I believe would be a better world. But I do so with tolerance because I know that not everyone believes as I do. Every man, woman and child on this earth is different. Our differences make us who we are. The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same so I urge you to accept these differences and exercise some tolerance.

We all assume that we really know people that we have known for a long time. Granted some relationships or friendships can be pretty open. But we all have our secrets. We have all done or said things that we will not tell anyone or admit to. We have all been hurt in one way or another and most of us bury that pain deep inside. It's these things that we bury inside and tell no one about that mold who we are. The truth is we don't really know those that are closest to us. So why do we assume to know a race, culture or religion. Each person that makes up a group has had different life experiences. We cannot and should not predict the reaction of the individual based on the reactions of others. It's true that people tend to follow. This is why it's so important for those that choose to lead do so with tolerance. In doing so we will allow the individual to grow.

Those around you will pressure you to be like them. They will get angry or upset when you are not. This is not your problem. Be yourself. The problem exists because others can not tolerate your individuality. The problem is theirs. There are billions of people in this world. You can always make new friends. Don't be afraid to let go of something that is destroying who you want to be or who you are.

The only time it's okay to not be tolerant is when someone is trying to force you to be someone you are not. If you don't know who you are or what you want to make of yourself then this is your journey. Own it. Do what you need to do in order to discover yourself. Take responsibility for what you do.

For thousands of years the world has preached conformity. Conformity to faith, religion, race, culture and nationality. For thousands of years those practices have lead to anger, hate and ultimately war. We can live in a world without war. But we have to choose to. You are entitled to your faith, religion, race, culture and nationality but what everyone needs to realize is that the border of those beliefs is within you and does not extend past your existence. They are yours. You may share some ideals with others but not everything that you are is the same.

We have to choose to be individuals and tolerate the individuality of others. In doing so we will discover a world of peace.

If you have read through this in it 's entirety I greatly appreciate it. If my words were able to help you make the choice for a better world, then I have already begun to make the world a better place and I thank you.

Everyone and everything is my friend.___

Path Of Life

The path of life is never certain. It bends and weaves and what lies behind the next corner can not be seen. Yet we choose to walk it. Some walk it alone and some walk it in the company of others. But each persons path is their own. Often others will try to pull you on to their path but when you walk on the path of another you always feel like something is missing.

All my life I have walked on the path of others. Until now. Now I walk on my path and I don't fear what lies ahead even though the path I have chosen is a most difficult one. My path may bend but I will not. My struggle is mine, the test is mine and so will the reward of finally reaching the end be mine.

This is not selfish. This is purpose. My purpose. To be that which I need to be. - David Waddington

Summer Set

When I posted this photo yesterday I was a bit hasty in my processing. So I went back and did it over. Much happier with this result. I love being able to walk out of the building I live in and take beautiful shots from just across the street.

Lavender Sheets

Digital Painting in Photoshop - about 8 hours

This image is 100% drawn using Photoshop. Various filters and blending effects were used to achieve the final result. I started off trying to create a texture background for portraits and this kinda took on a life of it's own.

If you look at it straight on it will appear rather flat but if you move your line of sight off of centre it will take on more dimension. The intended result is the look sheets will have if you press your hand into them and clench.

Feel free to comment and/or share!

I'd love to hear what you think of this. It's kind of an experiment and I'm not really sure if I like the results.

Twin Forks

This is a new edit of one of my luckiest moments as a photographer. Originally taken on July 1st of 2012. My original edit didn't quite have the pop that I liked. I'm hoping that this new edit has much more impact and that the image is more dramatic. Hopefully taking the wow factor of this very special moment up a notch.
