News came this morning that long-time South Dakota Senator and 1972 Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern died after a long illness. He was a champion for liberal causes and an outspoken critic of the war in Vietnam. He appeared on Meet the Press nine times over the course of his career. According to a statement released this morning, McGovern passed away peacefully in South Dakota, surrounded by his family. He was 90 years old. Our thoughts and prayers with his family.
