Woke  to a lovely early morning thunderstorm and a morning walk filled with all sorts of lovely negative ions and birds singing (negative ions are the good ones). Listening to Billy Holliday and looking at lovely signs, this is not a bad way to spend a Sunday :)

Nature knows how to work together. I realize rust and concrete aren't natural, but they are made of the earth. This drain I love, for its on one of my most favorite parts of Minneapolis/St. Paul, the parks and scenic roads. As you would expect, to live on such a road costs a bit more than other farther away places. This drain is always clean and always surrounded by such scenic beauty.

Aging Beauty
When I was with my mother before she passed I was enchanted by how much she looked like a flower, pulling further inside with each breezy breath. I spent the days walking in my sister's garden, taking energy in with each of my breaths. I started collecting these Aging Beauty flowers then, and am finding my old friends as I finally start pulling things together into a portfolio.

This Aging Beauty is from this evenings walk, she was standing tall and proudly glowing towards the sunset.

iPad 2 Part 2
Since Brian got his iPad our mornings are glorious. He is going through his library of 20000 songs and playing DJ for me. On this rainy thunderstormy morning I am processing and  listening to Gear Daddies, Fairport Convention, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and now George Winston.

This was taken yesterday in the English garden at St. Catherine University,. We took our first photowalk when we picked up my granddaughter's first dslr Nikon 5100. It was fitting we went to the beautiful campus. She first came to the campus of St. Kate's just before she was born when her mother started classes there. I took her there to the family study room to do my work, to my ceramics classes in our lovely studio. We picked dandelions in the Dandelion Store, before they sprayed it. She went to the help desk with me during the summers and on school holidays, up until two years ago when I left. This summer is likely our last together, and we are going to make it count. We are both taking a photography workshop by my wonderful friend. Just think of the future photowalks!

Earlier today at Google I/O, +Vic Gundotra announced #AutoEnhance  and #AutoAwesome  - two new features to help make sharing your photos more fun and more creative. To help you become more familiar with these tools, here’s a brief Q&A along with some sample images to enjoy. 

Can you give me some more details on how Google+ will enhance my  photos?
Sure! Auto Enhance analyzes your photos as you upload them, then optimizes brightness, contrast, details, noise, focus, and many other factors in order to help them really shine. Just click on the Enhanced hover button on newly uploaded photos to see the results. You can also manually turn on Auto Enhance on older images by clicking on ‘More’ and select ‘Auto Enhance’.

Will the Auto Enhanced version overwrite my original photos?

Bubble entry for the #scavengerhunt , and Reporting to Alien Abduction Friday

Finally! I found this ice alien more than two months ago, and knew I should report this, but I also had to find a cool bubble for the Scavenger Hunt, and she had to be my bubble. Since ice aliens are seasonal, I felt it was safe to wait, because I did think winter would eventually end in Minnesota. 

Alien hunters beware, little Nessie's season will be back again, so be sure to always look down as well as up, they are sneaky little creatures!

(I asked +Chrysta Rae  to reveal Bubble soonest so I could share this, and lo and behold its revealed on Alien Abduction Friday. Whether intentional or not, its filling our Friday with synchronicity :)

If we upload a photograph into a specific album, you do not get the option to share, so you have to go back into the album to share it, then it goes to Photos from Posts. (which we can't manage)

The comments and +'s go with the Photos from Posts, and are not visible on the image in your album. THUS #google, when people look at our photos in our albums, if we have added images to the album by using the Upload button on the Photos page, they will no longer see the images with the pluses and comments, which are an important part of our experience as photographers. I imagine it is the same with the mobile apps...

Brian's computer is a six-year-old Dell laptop, and Is as close to toast as you can get. It's hard to type on, and face it, it's an old Windows computer. So, I had a choice: I could have gotten him a cheap laptop for $3-$400, but then it's windows again. So, I got him an iPad 2. I know its not the newest one but it's what he needs to listen to music watch movies do research read the news, books, and most of all, write., Those of you with any smart phone or any tablet know how much fun they are, and how powerful.

This means that I can work for hours on and on my photography, and he'll be otherwise entertained!

An earlier Scavenger Hunt shot (I am still behind...), this one is Texture. It is one layer of thick ice over the leaves on the sidewalk. This was a gift from the Freezing Rain goddess :) It was about maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick on the morning after. We kept having crazy weather, starting out with about 3" of slush in the beginning of winter. Everyone else was complaining, I was on the ground shooting :)

I am so far behind in everything, I am just now starting to share my Scavenger Hunt entries, and we are halfway done! I will catch up, surely. 

This is my entry for Landscape. This is a solid sheet of ice, about 1/2 inch thick. The lines and ridges and variations are from how interesting the ice melted and froze so many time. In this I see a lot of little snow-covered pine trees on the side of a river running across the bottom of the mountain. The sun is rising on a frosty winters day.

The Race for the Cure last Sunday at the Mall of America has been our mother's day tradition for twelve years. My twelve year old granddaughter took my Nikon on the walk while I iPhoned at the finish line waiting for them. I think after her new Nikon 5100 today and the summer workshop we are taking from my fabulous friend +Kaite Peterson are going to create something amazing. 

This is her first time out with my camera. +Chrysta Rae  and the Scavengers (hey, a new band name!) are going to have some new competition for the next hunt... 

From my grandmother to me to my granddaughter, our circle of life.

As one who sometimes struggles with mobility and stays sane by creating, this man is my hero. Amos Winter saw a wrong, had a spark, and created something brilliant. Towards the top of the article I read they cost $200 for each wheelchair, but only for developing countries. He is working with a designer to sell them here to pay for his most wonderful original spark. There are a whole lot of poor people other places who could use these too. I am so proud of him!

They took my stout, but left the bitter ale

It's a good thing I went to Trader Joes yesterday, because it appears the aliens really love Chocolate Stout. They swooped, they took, and the swept away in a huff. Poor sports they are, they were upset I had already opened one, and they almost cried when Ruby jumped in and snuck a lick right under their noses!

Signs of Spring
Look! No snow! No worries. It's Minnesota, where the emerging tulips and the budding lilacs were covered with snow two days ago. Ha! they say, as they burrow under the cold white blanket. Today the tulips are peeking out again, refreshed from the best nap ever, and the lilac leaf and flower buds are are becoming my most favorite and special color, #greeple (green and purple)).

We had some crazy weather last week. It started with this slushy sleety freezing rain. It came down hard, and thickly coated the road like alien sand. I am one grateful everyone else saw how scary it was, we were all doing the same kind of slow. Which presented me with an opportunity to steady my phone up against the top of the windshield, a new little trick I learned earlier this week. 

I love this road. When I was just a little girl, it took us to the old Twins field, Metropolitan Stadium. Now it leads to the Mall of America, obscured by a sleety slushy sky.
