Please consider sponsoring me in supporting the Global Poverty Project whose goal is "to end extreme poverty"...From April 29th to May 3rd. I've signed up for the Live Below the Line Challenge which essentially involves feeding yourself on no more than $1.50 per day - the U.S. equivalent of the extreme poverty line. A mere 5 days. Intention is to raise awareness of the 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live below the line every day - and who have to make the $1.50 cover a lot more than food. Addressing this ever increasing gap between the haves and have-nots globally feels key to me as a progressive; as an activist; as an engaged buddhist; as a hopeful concerned loving empathetic opening earnest being, here and now :-) Even better than donating, join me and sign up for the challenge. Love.

Weeding for 5hrs this past weekend brought to me: When you look forward to what lies ahead you might feel intimidated and oh jesus/buddha....there is no hope, this is futile, i can't continue...if you look back you might feel ah man i am useless not progressing fast enough...missing all those weeds :-) but if you stay in the present moment feel sun on your skin and pause now and again to take in the view, the sounds of all the birds and animals even to notice the lizard within a hand's length next to you watching you breathing with you it is the most joyous exceptionally peaceful experience...occupy the present! viva!

Through my life's experience, have felt sensation of being ready to give my life towards a cause (at one time in the past not sure now) - towards what i perceived as social justice and contributing towards evolution and betterment....and that willingness to give my life gave me energy to accomplish things activism wise...gave me a lot of focus and enabled me to contribute to change revolution type change...perhaps an immature question...but is it necessary? I mean, do we need to feel prepared to give our lives towards a cause in order to unleash energy that can change things? Focusing on the 'Engaged' aspect here...do we need to get to a point where we are prepared to die if things don't change? in any sphere where we desire change, be it...treatment of women in the world; detention without trial; torture; human trafficking; desiccation of the environment; abuse of the disenfranchised?...Ig... more »

revealing how i am an imposter here:...i have been thinking about the first precept...."to abstain from taking life'...and was thinking in light of interconnectedness and every thought/action having repercussions...i can't imagine being in integrity vowing to 100% support this precept...i mean in light of not being vegetarian; sometimes metaphorically taking energy out of my surroundings, detracting from my own nourishment with negative talk; unwittingly buying from companies that are taking lives...etc. etc....essentially was wondering what does 'keeping the precepts' mean? fullfilling them...being in integrity with them....or is it an intention and commitment to awareness...or?

I. Storms

As I sit down to write this post many forces are converging, not the least of which is Hurricane Sandy, bearing down this hour on the East Coast.

Huge sections of Brooklyn and Manhattan are underwater, wind and rain is buffeting New Jersey and other parts of the Eastern shoreline, and millions of people in the path of the storm will be without power for days.

This is the nature of storms… to churn up unimaginable amounts of pure energy, to rearrange everything in their way, to move on, and to gradually disperse...

Clayton For Google AdCamp :)

In March, I applied for the Google AdCamp Program (goo.gl/66QBN) this summer by +Google Students. The summer program is aimed at giving university students, like myself, insight into +Life at Google, Google's advertising sales with products such as +Google Ads & +Google AdSense, as well as the advertising industry as a whole.

My goal is to one day be a Googler and this program is a great stepping stone towards making that a reality.

I believe I have what it takes to be a Googler. I never settle for less. I am always seeking to better myself, challenge myself, and learn more. I have a strong passion for technology and marketing as well as an extensive knowledge of Google and it's products. Above all else, I possess a strong drive to succeed and innovate.

Feel free to reshare this post and my webpage discussing why I... more »

Did you know you can change a link so a video will start at a certain point? Just click Share > Options on a video page or add #t= and the number of minutes and seconds at the end of the URL. For example, if I wanted to start at 4 minutes and 7 seconds, I'd add #t=4m7s and I'm done! So, say you wanted to skip straight to the part where the starved, foreign explorer freaks out over cheese puffs... bam:

Basic needs - extreme happiness

And guess what? If you're not scared of a little html, it works for urls within players you embed on blogs and websites too. Pretty sweet.

A Google+ Experiment in Collective Intelligence
(Post #3 - since the first and second posts exceeded comment limits)

—————————————————————
Please help me run an experiment to test whether the "wisdom of crowds" actually works here on Google+ and see if this community can collectively guess the number of (generic-brand) "Cheerios" in the below glass vase.

The three conditions for a group to be collectively intelligent are diversity, independence, and decentralization. Here are the two steps to run this experiment:

1) Without looking at others' responses (to ensure the independence of our guesses), comment below with your single best guess on how many Cheerios are in the vase. It's one vase, not two; just shown from two different perspectives. Only oneguess per person, please.

This morning I saw a Flowering Cross ceremony. It brought to mind Rebecca Parker's "Saving Paradise: How Christianity Traded Love of This World for Crucifixion and Empire"...Her book starts with the words, "It took Jesus a thousand years to die. Images of his corpse did not appear in churches until the tenth century. Why not?..." This flowering cross image also made me think of seeds deep in the darkness growing within and the continual awakening/resurrection happening within us all. Deeply moving... Happy Easter and Happy Awakening.
