I agree that streaming media players won't kill cable. Cable is already done that for them.

You can watch most network programming the next day on the broadcasters website except for CSI that has a week lag. Is that not what the DVR allowed us to do?

I have been without cable for a month and have not missed it.

I am up to chapter 27 of the standard android tutorial with a better understanding of the structure of apps.  To me, it seems that an app is a deck of cards that can be retrieved, dealt based on the manifest file and what activity is invoked (or created).  If you go back and return the last card to the deck, you lose any data collected and have to deal/create that activity or another one.

I know that you can use a layout XML file for more than activity class, but can you call that class more than once creating a second activity with the same layout and views?

I know it is overly simplistic description, but am I far off?  Forgive me in the terminology is off, but I am still a noob.  Is the Activity created called an instance or object.  I'm still trying to wrap my head around OOP.

In Android Studio, how do you open the Manifest file and add a second Activity without having to type the code?  The Tutorial shows a window screen in eclipse, but it does not explain the menu or shortcut key to open it.

I have a stupid noobie question, but how do you decide what is the best way to create an event with a button.  I understand that the more objects created requires more memory.  I am not an expert at OOP yet, but I understand the onclick method better as part of the Activity object.  However, using the button attribute  to start without the Switch statement seems like the way to go.  Are there different scenarios to use each one?

Never heard of the 'NoFap' movement, but could it be that online networks just are not integrating into our lives, routines like we need them to as they are being developed for a mass audience?

Great quote sums it up, "...it becomes old hat and we either integrate it in our lives in a health way..." Or we move on to the next shiny new piece of technology.

So my programming hobby is blending in with work where I don't have to wait until I quit my job really have time to play and explore Java.

I started as a web designer and ended up learning php and a little javascript (c++) code.  I this is my first exploration of the Java world.  I did successfully install Android Studio.

Do you have any good videos or sites setting up a "Hello, World" app and run through the built in emulator?

Skills I want to learn quick:
1. Create form to collect data from mobile devices (including tablets)
2. Determine the best way to sync, compile for company (database, dropbox, etc.)

What is TV besides cable controlled content?

Is it not a gathering place with in your places for 1 or more where mobile and tablets are more personal for one.

Could it extend hangouts to parties or town halls?

Look to game consoles. I think Microsoft about had it. It's where people coming together using voice, motion, or personal devices.

I finally have an opportunity to become an android programmer at work!  I like the new Android Studio SDK.  I tried to install and then install the Java SDK, but even after adding a environmental variable JAVA_HOME showing where to look for the JRE7 exe file, the Android Studio still will not recognize that it is installed on my Surface Pro.  Anyone have any ideas?

The Traveling Stream
Is there any way that you can sync your Google+ stream or a card from your stream from your desktop to your mobile?

For example, you begin reading your stream and you want to take that card or video in your stream to your G+ mobile app or chrome browser as you walk out the door.  It would be like Uverse were you could continue TV from room to room.

Ever wondered how Google sets goals and measures the results? Believe it or not, the system used by Google today was introduced to the company by +John Doerr 14 years ago.

This was our most popular Startup Lab workshop last year, and it was particularly gratifying to see several of our portfolio companies implement OKRs (objectives and key results) based on the model we've adopted at Google. I loved leading the workshop; very excited to make it publicly available now.

"There's a wonderful quote from Benjamin Franklin.  There are three sorts of people in the world. Those who are immovable - people who don't get it, who don't want to get it, who don't want to know anything about it.  There are people who are movable - people who see the need for change and are prepared to listen to it.  And there are people who move - people who make things happen.  And if we can encourage more people, that will be a movement.  And if the movement is strong enough, that's in the best sense of the word - a revolution."

My HTC One has stopped the digging. It also refreshes pretty frequently.  I I had moved away from Pulse and reader to Flipboard on iOS. Now I rarely even use Flipboard.  However, I would like to see more content integration with Google+ Communities and other news sources.

One thing that I stumbled onto was how the feed allows you to continue moving through the stories after selecting a specific article.  Swipe right to move to the next article details of hit back button to get to the main feed scroll.

I am also impressed with the contact linking where my friends exist in several social works.

Hangouts Remote Desktop: tech support with a personal touch

For those of you who play tech support for friends and family, there’s now a Hangouts app to make things easier -- powered by the same technology behind Chrome Remote Desktop.

Hangouts Remote Desktop lets you help others by controlling their computer remotely (with their permission, of course). And because you’re both in a Hangout, you can talk with and see each other during the session.

To get started, just start a Hangout and click View More Apps > Add Apps > Hangouts Remote Desktop.

Let us know what you think, and please keep the feedback coming!

Paradise Lost
June 1, 2009 at 5:07 am

A decade in the making;
A feeling like no other.
A pace just keeps rising
as my temperature doubled.

The piggy bank could not say
what was contained in one line
of friendship and puppy love.
Would you be my valentine?

Simply a scared homely adolescent;
If you knew, would you leave me too?
I opened up in London and France
even shouting from the Côte d'Azur.

After many tireless nights in college,
I wooed you with my nom de plume.
Unfortunately, I had only the courage
to anonymously quote country songs.

They say, “Time heals all wounds.”
Your ‘Backyard Band’ I joined
meeting a top the Hotel Washington.
A heart whole from the love we made.

Almost giving up, it’s not to be;
But a smile made me give it achance.... more »
