Tonight I tried LR5's new upright correction.

Jeezy peezy. Last night I wanted to upgrade to LR 5. I added it to my cart and tried to check out. Adobe said I had to be logged in, so I did that. I tried to check out. Adobe said I had to be logged in. I got off the merry go round by switching from FF to Safari. That time I was able to check out, only to have Adobe say I couldn't order it at that time. Later I was able to get my upgrade.

Now I have a question. I've always stored my images on an external drive, and I have a link from my internal drive to it. When I import new photos I always specify the actual external drive. After I converted my catalog from LR 4 to LR 5 all of my images appeared on the internal drive. Is this a change in behavior that now LR 5 is looking at the link? I wonder why since the catalog should give the path to the external drive. I may break link and see what happens.

A short time ago a CSX train derailed and exploded near B'more. Here's a quote:
"Amtrak said the derailment did not affect its train schedule because the train was not on tracks it uses." (emphasis mine)

Maybe it derailed because it wasn't supposed to use those tracks. ;)

Actually, Amtrak meant that it was a freight train and therefore doesn't use passenger train tracks.

I haven't had the opportunity to take a deep, meaningful shot. Saturday I  went on a hike looking for birds, and I saw a couple of families of Canada Geese. I chose this image because I like the mom's proud bearing.

I know there are some Drobo users out there. A couple of weeks ago my Drobo 4 (4 x 1 TB drives) started to act sluggish. While it was never a speed demon, it always worked fine on my old iMac with Firewire. When I replaced my iMac with the newest model I switched to USB and throughput was about the same. I can't find anything that has changed to cause this. The iMac had been complaining because the Drobo wasn't unmounted when the iMac went to sleep, so I installed an app that umounts/mounts external drives automatically. I also bought a Thunderbolt/Firewire cable in case the USB was the problem.

For a few days I was back to my old speeds, but now its super sluggish again. My solution was to replace the Drobo with a G-Tech 4 TB G-RAID with Thunderbolt. It should be a screamer, but I'd still like to use the Drobo as an additional backup.

Here's a PSA. To upload new photos to an album, use the Organize button in the album. The new window will contain an "Upload Photos" button. There may be other ways to do this, but I've confirmed that this works.

For my #assignmentforjake , +Jake Johnson posted a link to a YouTube video. A cross-country rider almost fell off her horse after a series of big jumps and hung on until she was able to pull herself back into the saddle and continue. (By coincidence, I know the person who posted the video.) The assignment was:  Show us in one image your idea of Determination.

With all respect to the people who have posted deep, meaningful pictures, I took a different approach. My wife and I have been separated over two years, and my emphasis has been on enjoying my life and mending my ways. I'm not ready to take photos like the paintings that a friend makes, full of deep, dark meanings from her childhood. I'm purging my violent, Germanic side with light-hearted pictures.

Show us one of your best pictures from this weekends show....In Black and White.

Even though I had to hold Dixie with one hand and my camera with the other, I managed to take 160 shots. A few times I used her as a quadrapod, but her back lacks a quick-release mount.

I over-exposed the photo in post to emphasize the horse and his eye since I wanted it to be the focal point (even though it's almost in the center of the frame).

After today's hike I revisited part of the trail with my macro lens. +Dusty Gedge can you tell what the second insect is? This was at Susquehannock St Park in PA. I think it looks like Eric the Half a Bee.

A short time ago I got home from my photography club's monthly meeting at Pizza Hut where the presentation was on Street Photography. (I volunteered to talk next month.) The resident toad was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the condo door. As suggested by +Myrna Weinreich, I ran inside and grabbed my camera, macro lens, and SpeedLight to try my own SP. Whilst I was lying on my stomach on the sidewalk, a neighbor came outside (and stepped over me). I assured her that all I had to drink at PH was Pepsi. Then a couple who live on my floor drove up and wanted to know what was going on. The woman saw my flashes and thought something was happening. :-)
