Factory-produced world's tallest skyscraper gets the green light
Taller than the Burj Khalifa Sky City is a 6-7 month factory produced skyscraper at 838 m tall. About to start construction and excavation, the Broad Group should have the building complete by the start of 2014.
But more than the height, I think what surprises me the most is the fact that they have a skyscraper factory to churn stuff like this out. 93% of the work will be performed in the factory., which will also be churning out 30-story buildings at a rate of 500 per year per factory.
* It's designed to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake.

apple definitely designs products for the lowest common denominator...
my wife listed an apple router on ebay (was her mom's), and in the pictures it was clearly a 3 port router. Ebay "suggested" it was a 5 port (something about different apple generations?) and the guy bought it and is complaining about it being a "last generation model".
yeah... ha!

How to setup an optimised Minecraft Server on Raspberry Pi
Minecraft is written in java. With the ARM java runtime it is possible to run the minecraft server on your Pi but due to Pi's limited processing power and RAM the server will be lagging in many situation rendering the game unplayable. For example, a block that you break will not register as broken until 5-10 seconds later. This is not fun.
Fortunately for us there is an effort by a user named faketruth to rewrite the server in C++ and this version runs just fine on the Pi

In order to get the code and compile it on your Pi you need to download subversion first
for Raspbian:

Here's a neat thing if you're into development on your Chrome OS Device. With one command, you can easily get helpful developer tools such as python, rsync and much more.
All you need is to run sudo dev_install in a Chrome OS shell.
After that, check out /etc/portage/make.profile/package.installable file to see what are all your new tools available.

My wife was sick of her iPhone 4s, so I got her a Samsung Galaxy Nexus .... which she hates--she says the phone is not great (and frequently has problems where the other person can't hear her), and the battery life is very poor.
Maybe one of the new blackberries is next?
