The funeral procession of a long serving and extremely dedicated police dog handler passes through a Guard of Honour made up from serving Dog Section handlers as rain lashes down.

window shoppers
Next in the window shoppers series.
A camera shop window and its admirers, counting the pennies - eyes bigger than their stomach.
This collection will expand and diversify with time.

New Project
I present 'The Window Shoppers'.
Something envisaged over the last few months, and finally in progress. There is a certain character that looks into this shop but never enters - a window full of dreams and aspirations. A reflection into the past or future.
This is a camera shop window. It displays only the top spec cameras to draw in passers by and tempt them. Their looks intrigued me, being on the other side of the glass. Collectively they have a story, they stand not as individuals. These are the window shoppers.

Most of us will have documented those awkward moments spent with strangers. A short exchange which leads to a quick street portrait. Often as meaningless as the last. Well here is another. I have hundreds of them, 'he had good wrinkles' - 'oh look at her glasses' - 'I'm going to photograph him with the small dog'.
I get it - texture, style, emotion, human connection. Lonely photographer material.
I'm sure eventually there will be something special about these images - I look at old photos of streets and people and they have so much to offer, a window into the past - before I existed. These will become special for someone born tomorrow.

A very interesting approach to documenting a personal loss. An extremely direct application of a camera in situations that ordinarily would not welcome the lens.

Unfortunately I will be attending a funeral today. These events always back-hand me into a reflective state and Rémi Ochlik will not be far from my thoughts today.

Cops watch the street below as a volatile group of people gather. Spotting known trouble makers.... bit like where's Wally.

Dreaded paperwork. In 2008 the Crown Prosecution Service and the Association of Chief Police Officers introduced plans to streamline paperwork in prosecution files. To date, according to the National Audit Office, the scheme still appears to be hit and miss with a lack of guidance for and awareness in police officers resulting in failed prosecutions. It has been estimated that up to half the working hours of the average cop is spent on paperwork.

Tazer Job
It was very early in the morning, 5 am I think. Stragglers were still leaving town - drunk. We were parked up watching a man zig-zag home when we got the call. A man had been seen with a metal bar, tazer authorised. Its not often tazer is authorised immediately but the man, according to the 999 caller, was extremely aggressive and breaking into houses. Interesting. So off we go, the dog can sense the tension in the car and begins to get fired up. Its not far out of town, a fairly quiet spot. We hear them before we see them. Two weight lifters thrashing around with curl bars smashing the hell out of anything that will smash.
"Get on the floor"... "NOW"
Tazer comes out but.... hulk still smash! We were still alone, waiting for back up but it was quickly apparent the two men were drunk, very drunk. It's not clear if the first man intended to get on the... more »

We have just cleared up at a sudden death in a near by house, its late and its cold.
Some of the things you develop as a police officer, and I suppose as a photojournalist, is the ability to sleep when your not tired, be alert when your shattered and most importantly to eat when your not hungry - you never know when your next going to get the chance!

The 'night' series of Harold Ross is really quite beautiful well worth a look... +Al Brydon I recon you might find this especially interesting.
