Moulin Gustot

Elevé en 1826 par un certain Rosy, ce moulin à vent fut d’abord construit entièrement en bois sur un socle octogonal fait de briques. Particulièrement exposé aux vents, il fonctionnait parfaitement. Il disparut malgré tout assez rapidement et, en 1854, fut reconstruit en brique par les frères Gustot. Il subit de nombreuses dégradation au fil du temps. En 1960, alors qu’il ne subsistait plus qu’une partie de la tour, il fut entièrement restauré. La commune d’Incourt l’acquit en 1991 et sa dernière restauration s’acheva en 1996. Le sommet de sa calotte immobile culmine à 13m au-dessus du niveau du sol.

Depuis 2002, ce magnifique site accueille, chaque année, à la fin du mois de juin, la fête du pain.

Reverse Graduated Neutral Density (GND) Filter
Just for those not familiar with ND Grad filters, here is a small video I made last summer to show how works, in this case a Reverse Graduated Neutral Density (GND) Filter.

The "Reverse" filter is used on sunrise or sunset. Instead of the darkest part of the filter being at the top and the lightest being at the bottom of the grad, it’s the opposite, you have the darkest part at the bottom of the grad (half way up) and the lightest part at the top.

Photo prise sur un terril (à Quaregnon je pense) il y a quelques années. C'est une composition de deux photos: l'une avec un filtre ND1000 (BW #110) pendant 30 sec. sans le personnage et l'autre beaucoup plus rapide avec le photographe compris :) Un trépied a évidement été utilisé ainsi que le timer pour la deuxième pose afin que je puisse me positionner dans le décor.

Panther Creek Falls

I added another "Story Behind the Photo" post to the blog this week. This week's photo is from Panther Creek Falls along the Columbia River Gorge. I took the trip back in August with +Brian Matiash, +Nicole S. Young, and +Brian Bonham (thanks Brian B. for helping me not kill myself).

I re-share this one in case you missed it. With a height difference of 73.15 metres (240.0 ft) between the upstream and downstream reaches, it is the tallest boat lift in the world!

Evening light on Na Pali Coast spires from Tunnels Beach, Island of Kauai, Hawaii USA

Kauai is known as the Garden Isle and it's one of the wettest spots on earth with an annual average rainfall of 460 inches. But when the skies start to clear, the light is also like no place on earth.

The magenta color cast in the sky is due to the use of two Hitech filters... I think I'll have to buy LEE filters to avoid this color cast.

Ouzel Creek quickly flows towards me as the rising sun lights Ouzel peak and the clouds above. This was an incredibly beautiful but chilly August morning up at Bluebird Lake in Wild Basin. These wonderful colors didn't last long, but I'm so glad I was there to see it happen.

View from the ISS at Night
Awesome timelapse made by Knate Myers. 
Every frame in this video is a photograph taken from the International Space Station. Knate has removed noise and edited some shots in photoshop. The all thing has been compiled and arranged in Sony Vegas.

Waterloo Lion's Mound, Belgium
Another shot of the Lion's Mound which is a large conical artificial hill raised on the battlefield of Waterloo to commemorate the location where William II of the Netherlands (the Prince of Orange) was knocked from his horse by a musket ball to the shoulder during the battle. It was ordered constructed in 1820 by his father, King William I of The Netherlands, and completed in 1826. The younger William had fought at the Battle of Quatre Bras (June 16) and the Battle of Waterloo (June 18). source: wikipedia
