For those of you looking for a game that matches the old feel of "Descent" from back in the '90s... Take a look at "RetroVirus". It is a fully 3D cyberpunk-ish game where you play a system's AntiVirus, chasing down a rogue virus/worm infection that is rapidly laying waste to your home system and doing what it can to block your process from trying to remove it.

On top of this, they also are including Steam Workshop integration for skins, maps, mods and other content to be created by the community. It includes an editor for the game, and you can import other assets and build your own extensions.

If you are into VR or space-cavern 3D shooters you should take a look at this. I imagine that playing this in something like the #occulusrift  would probably leave you with all sorts of disorientation, but would be incredibly fun. Sadly, Windows only for rightn... more »

This is actually really snazzy. Yes it is using your own data from a rather invasive (privacy wise) location pimping app. However, the visualization it gives you is rather fun. Not saying it is that great of a trade, but if you already made the trade, then seeing something extra from it is always nice.

So for those of you who have used FourSquare, take a moment to go back and look at all of your check-in data visualized.

Google, your change to the #Chrome newtab disappoints me. You can no longer middle-click (open in new tab) or right click on the Top sites list. It also no longer has the "Recently Closed" or "Other Devices" menus.
Google, I thought you new better than to REDUCE functionality. Hopefully this is fixed.

So, Who wants a copy of DOTA2? Free to play, payed items or any items that drop do not influence winning nor stategic, they are all purely cosmetic. So you can play without spending a cent. They have tournaments you can watch directly in the client to watch the really good players, and they have a large multitude of play modes, heroes to play and other such.
I have 10 keys to give away, for free. Let me know if you want one! First come, first serve (unless you are a jerk).

Oh dear baud, This would be AWESOME. However, I would likely want to make adjustments. This looks rather difficult to build. I would love to see schematics to see how feasible something like this would be for an amateur to create. Hell, if I get enough time and practice on smaller projects, I would love to create one of these anyways.

So, it looks like the Google Plus "Games" area is being closed after June 30. I suppose they are just going to integrate with the Google Games API that is cross platform. Then companies can roll out games and host them wherever and just include Google as a sign-in token (like Facebook or Twitter) and then use the Google Games API.

For those of you who couldn't find it (there were a few), This is how you adjust the overall volume/frequency of a circle/group. Not as granular as before (nor as intuitive), however it gets the job done.

Go to your respective circle/group. Find the "In this circle" card. Click on the gear and rummage around inside and you should find the options for how frequent you want this circle to show up in your "All" feed.

For your communities, Find the top left card and rummage through the "gear" icon for settings there.

(Yes this is a repost, I included a picture for communities as well)
Now, can I figure out how to pin the left hand navigation bar, or collapse the hangouts bar...

So, apparently +VUDU  (the media-conglomerate approved online streaming video locker service utilizing the UltraViolet DRM platform) apparently suffered a physical break-in where a number of Hard Drives were stolen. It was confirmed that the HDDs contained User account names, emails, encrypted passwords, addresses, but no financial data. Also, it was noted that if you never set a specific password and just signed in from another token (like a FB, Twitter, or Google account), then the password was not in existence.

I got a big ol' email about this sitting in my inbox. They did put out a good bit of info in that email. However, it makes it sound like it was either an inside job, a former insider, or from somebody close to an insider.

Anybody see any articles or investigations into this? I would be curious for even more information. (Although I doubt there is any outat thi... more »

I tried messing with some Time-Lapse stuff using my Asus Transformer (Original TF101, refurb). This is North facing from one of the top floors of an apartment building in Pudong, Shanghai. I wish that the sensor on this thing had better low-light, but that is a typical problem of almost all phones and tablets.

I used to get great results on my Xperia Play, not so good with my Moto Droid. Holy Schnikeys! New Humble Bundle is all music! Amazingly the only one I don't have is the "They Might Be Giants" album. I was silently hoping it was their new 16th album, but hey, this is still a good album. Tons of good independent music from several tastes and genres. Good ol' rock, comedy, NerdCore Rap, esoteric, Soundtracks, etc.
Pay what you want, and if you beat the average, you get a remix album by "OK Go" (of internet fame and music charts fame).

On top of all that they are giving it not just in MP3, but in FLAC also. No DRM to muck with the works. Get your files, pop it in your machine or player, and enjoy your audio.

Even better, if you choose to allow it (and it is set by default) a portion of the proceeds goes to Charity! Yes, I know I sound like I'm a TV ad sales guy, but seriously folks. Humble Bundles tend to get me excited and this... more »

Why Bastion is my Favorite Game I've Played in 2012
Don't like games? Like music? Listen to the awesome soundtrack below

Yes. I enjoyed this game even more than Mass Effect 3. Why? It created a wholly immersive experience. Sure, ME3 had amazing graphics and also did an incredible job created a world, but it was a world I was familiar with. Bastion on the other hand mixed an intriguing narrative with an exceptional soundtrack all wrapped up through an omnipresent narrator that filled in all the little bits inbetween. Bastion feels fresh and it's obvious the developer had a very clear vision as they portrayed a world that forms around you as you walk. Minus one very annoying gimmick at the end, Bastion proves that you don't need millions of dollars to be memorable. Part RPG, Shooter, Adventure, it definitely channels the games of yesterday with obvious takeaways from... more »

Netflix creates pro-SOPA super-PAC

As United States lawmakers continue to consider anti-piracy legislation in Congress, they’ve found an ally in Netflix. Now the streaming content giant has created its own super PAC, whose main goal is to promote SOPA-like legislation.

Hollywood and record industry support didn’t help Congress get SOPA and PIPA to pass the House and Senate, but now they have a new accomplice in their continuing fight to try and push for anti-piracy legislation. Netflix, the number one name in (legally) streaming video services in the US has announced the formation of their own political action committee. Appropriately titled FLIXPAC, the just established-agency will be able to endorse politicians by way of stuffing their pockets, which in turn could influence even more congressmen to condone increasingly controversial bills that are being considered in theHou... more »

#GeekQuestions
Okay folks, I'm looking for an effective way (without having to use VMs, extra routers, or proxies) to chain applications to specific network interfaces. These are user applications, not server apps. I'm not trying to bind Apache to a eth1 as opposed to eth0. As an example, imagine I have two interfaces: eth0 and wan1 . . .
eth0 connects to my local network and provides access to local devices such as my personal server, NAS, media devices, etc, but also has internet access through one ISP
wan1 connects to the internet at large through another ISP, say through a local wireless or cellular carrier.
I want to use Browser A (say FireFox) to browse my local network services and access the internet through eth0, and I want Browser B (say... Chrome/Chromium) to connect through wan1.

How then can I force an application to be bound to one specific interface?... more »

Not sure what plant this is specifically, but it's stalks were woody like a shrub or small tree and were a wonderfully deep red. It is transitioning from Winter to spring right now, and we are starting to get flowering stuff everywhere, but not quite out here unless you look closely at the trees and see flower and leaf buds starting to pop out.

It appears that Key-Visual Arts has released a number of their visual novels to Android over in the Japanese version of the Android / Google Play Market. Link below to an example in 'Kanon', although there are a number of others. I have to imagine that these are the general audience versions (since Google has a policy in regards to adult related content). I think as a platform, touch devices (phone and tablet), both would function incredibly well for most VNs (visual novels).
