Hi everyone! Just checking in from NYC. I've been here visiting both my daughters and grandson, who live here. One daughter graduated from Columbia on Monday. This is not my daughter who graduated, as she won't let me take photos of her. This is my youngest +Nicole Night, a talented singer, modeling for me. Currently, it's super hot! After the last ceremony tomorrow, I hope to get a chance for a little photography. I left my tripod at home however and am regretting it.

~ North Fork Falls - along the Kentucky Falls Trail ~

Last weekend we had a heat wave on the Oregon Coast. It wasn't the best weekend for shooting waterfalls due to the bright sunlight, but we made the best of it when friends +Patricia Thomas and her husband visited the area and wanted to photograph it. It was a fun day!

A couple of weeks ago hubby & I were joined by friend +Eric Vogt for a day of shooting tulips & waterfalls. The Butte Creek Falls were not yet at their spring greens prime but were beautiful to see. The spray off of the upper falls was pretty intense so I have some work to do on a few images I really like.

Good morning! What a great weekend I had full of friends, tall ships, waterfalls and surprise storm clouds.

Last night Mike and I went to Sunset Bay because it looked promising for a colorful sunset. The clouds were wild but it turned out the western sky was cloudless. So I decided to look east and wait it out at the Charleston Marina because thunder clouds were brewing. While the sky was going off a boat showed up with "Greenwich Police" on it. Soon I realized there was something going on. Two men pulled up and jumped out of their truck, one guy with camera in hand. I soon realized he was directing two boat drivers in some short of photo shoot. I asked the guy with the camera what the Greenwich Police boat was doing in Coos Bay. He said it was a fictitious boat for the purpose of advertising. He was there to take photos of a new boat for a boat company based out of Roseburg. Itwa... more »

Springtime Elowah Falls
Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

This shot brought to you by great personal risk to my camera... Elowah Falls and McCord Creek were absolutely raging from 3 straight days of rain combined with snow melt in the upper regions of the Columbia River Gorge. Venturing out into the creek to find compositions was pretty much impossible and the lone accessible spot I could find was splashing quite a bit, as you can see in this frame. It was time to get patient about wiping off the lens, relaxed about gear getting wet, and creative with composing and focusing with not much room to work with. Happy to have come away with a view of the falls I like.

Over the weekend, not only did I go to the Tulip Festival but I was able to visited a few waterfalls. Silver Falls State Park is looking beautiful but it's a few weeks out for it's prime spring greens. Always a fun place to go and enjoy.

Vicki's Tractor - Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, Woodburn, OR.

I'm sure you've seen several of the pink tractor from festival photos at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, but I just had to take one. It was challenging to shot it with no people on it since everyone was posing their family members with it.

The Balancing Rocks in Central Oregon are nothing short of impressive and mysterious. I arrived at the trailhead, special thanks to GPS, around 11pm and had these iconic pillars all to myself. You know the feeling of 'being the only kid in a candy store'? Yep, this was me. It was all mine! I wandered around for the first few hours trying out a variety of comps and met the rising Milky Way around 3am. Clouds began to move into the area shortly after, but I was able to capture this image before they took over the entire night sky. Clouds seem to be the trend for the month... nothing but clouds.

Autumn Whispers

Oneonta Creek · Columbia River Gorge · Dodson · Oregon · USA

Like delicate splatters from an orange paintbrush, autumn leaves add a sprinkle of warm color to moss-covered boulders lining the serpentine shores of Oneonta Creek, here in high flood and stained brown with muddy silt from the fresh rains. One of the few downsides to living in this area, though, is the paucity of naturally occurring oranges and reds in the fall, as the bountiful leaves of the local maples and alders tend to yellow and tatter their way into autumnal senescence. Coming across these maples rooted at successive bends of the creek with their blazing orange leaves was something like providence.

Wrong season, I know, but it's a personal favorite of mine and I felt like posting it... :)

I've been experimenting with new ways to compose images taking more into account how clouds can help frame and balance an image. This is Cape Blanco Lighthouse. I actually shot this from several different angles before I made it to this one--including some with sunbursts peeking out from behind the tower section. But as it turns out, the streams of clouds shooting away from the lighthouse are my favorite.

I haven't named this one yet. Any ideas? :)

For #waterfallwednesday thanks to +Eric Leslie, I wanted to share this photo of Abiqua Falls near Scotts Mills in Oregon. The hike to this waterfall is a little rugged but so worth it when you stand within the amphitheater gazing at this thunderous waterfall. The moss colors are really this vibrant! I've been to the waterfall twice and hope to get there again sometime!
