I would have never heard of SOPA or NDAA without Google+, I probably wouldn't know who Tebow is, and I wouldn't have realized just how many fans Ron Paul has.
However, I was studying some data and found something interesting. close to 80% of Google+ users aren't even using Google+ to its full potential. According to a distribution of the number of followers and following data collected, 82-86% if Google+ users have less than 100 in their circles and less than 100 following them. That is huge. With a MOE of +/- 4.2%, only about 6-7% of users have more than 100, and frankly you need at the very least 200 in your circles to grab the wide variety of incoming news, trends, and outrageous things coming down the tube.
While in Facebook many say having 200 friends or more shows how popular you are, in reality your brain can only handle about 150 real relationships, after that you are kidding yourself, and those extra people are just...buffers to make you seem cooler. Google+ should have much fewer friends, and more unknowns. I only have say 5 people I actually know in my circles, because this isn't about catching up, this is about getting out there and seeing the new funny stuff happening, see what the world is about, and connecting with hundreds of people for the purpose of exchanging interesting information rather than phone numbers (although that is cool too).
So help your friends out. If you see someone who posts a decent amount but with few comments and +1's, share a circle of people with them, heck share a circle with everyone. Actually, I think I will do that now. These are the people who have added me, and I post very little. but follow them and you will see a good mix of some politics, some humor, and of course, some interesting photos and things you never thought you would be into.
