I was discussing with +Phil Tubb the other day that--in my experience--the way people use Facebook and Google+ are quite different. I've seen people follow family members and old friends and classmates on Facebook to learn about how friends are getting along, who's dating whom, what people had for dinner, etc... and when they come to G+ many of those people they follow on Facebook aren't here yet, so their stream is still and quiet ("just the sound of crickets", as +Aisha Thiessen told me). Unlike Facebook, though, G+ is much more about finding new friends and people whose interests you share, though--with a little poking around and a little "gardening" of your circles, you can find all kinds of interesting people... but how to get started finding those folks, and curing "Slim Stream Syndrome" ("SSS")?
There are a growing number of ways to do this (searching G+ for a topic that interest you, for example), but one is to load yourself up with a "starter set" of G+ people that someone recommends to you as having interesting things to say (or at least that share funny cat photos...). I just spent half an hour quickly going through my circles and pulled together this "shared circle" of people who (a) post regularly on G+; (b) say interesting (or entertaining) things, and do it well (whether I always agree with them or not); and (c) encourage discussion. (It's not an all-inclusive list by any means--please don't be offended if I didn't include you!).
If you're suffering from SSS, consider clicking on the "Add circle" link below--that will copy all these folks into a new circle in your G+ account, and away you go. If you don't like or enjoy what you're seeing from them, take them out of your circle, and they're gone; if you do, see who they're sharing things from and discussing things with, and you'll soon find other new people on your own to add to your circles.
