Don't forget to look up
While out shooting wildflowers we stumbled upon three young little raccoons. Not your typical city raccoons but truly cute and wild baby raccoons. In their natural environment they are much much cuter don't you think?

Wild Columbine
Here in My area of Canada, the Flowering times of various flowers over various seasons is very fleeting. May through July being an incredible time to get out that close up equipment and knee pads and get out into the fields and forests shooting these natural wonders.
In this flower portrait I used a light diffuser (scrim) to soften the effects of harsh direct sunlight

Yellow Lady Slipper
One of the many "portraits" I shot last weekend while putting a series together talking about using light modifiers while shooting flowers. These unique orchids are a very abundant resident during springtime on the Northern Bruce Peninsula Ontario, Canada.
Like I mentioned earlier this week, I find flowers are a lot like shooting portraits. The tools are much the same as well.

Flowers are like People
What I have come to know is the techniques used to photograph people are the very same for photographing flowers. Reflectors, scrims, light blockers and flash. Each flower is like a little person.
This is an image of one of my set ups this weekend while I was shooting wild orchids In Ontario, Canada this weekend.
I will be posting work from the shoot tomorrow.

On my way up north to shoot some yellow Lady Slipper Orchids. Perhaps catch the delicate and rare Calypso Orchid on the trip as well!
My Goal is to create content for a workshop on controlling light with modifiers with flash and natural light in close up photography. May sneak in a spider macro or two ;)
I leave you with a watercolour paining I did several years back. Have a great weekend!

Eugene H. Peterson once wrote:
“The great masters of imagination do not make things out of thin air; they direct our attention to what is right before our eyes. With their help we see it not as commonplace but as magnificent, not as timeworn but as timeless.”
This has become one of my all time favorite Quotes. I first read it on a now good friends website +Annette Biggers. It instantly resonated with me and has become a bit of a mantra that I share with new, upcoming and struggling creatives.
The next time you think you need a new piece of equipment or a an exotic location, consider that quote.

More from the porch
Brianna
I simply love the the light from a reflector in a back light situation. in yesterdays portrait I used white as a reflector. Here I used Gold. It's all a matter of how much light is available and what temperature that light is.

For Portrait Tuesday
Diana
Done with natural light and one white reflector
While working on a shoot we decided to shoot on the porch of an old house. The light was strong from behind (my favorite) and the porch was reflecting lots of soft light. a reflector was used to just kiss the model with extra light without overpowering the beautiful subtle feel

FINAL PLUS POST of the G+ Mentorship Program Advanced Mentorship
The last many weeks I have been beavering away in the background away from the main stream of G Plus, so its quite a nice change to be able to share with you all what I've been.
First of all a well deserved plug for the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers , organised and run by the program directors, +Robin Griggs Wood, +Ron Clifford and +Tamara Pruessner
"The G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers is an on-line, mini-mentorship program that gives emerging amateur photographers the opportunity to reach out to working professionals, gaining both technical, artistic expression or career advice in a friendly forum."
It wouldn't be an understatement to say the mentorships I have taken, and assisted in, have made me into the photographer and, dare I say it, a... more »

Thank you so much, +Ron Clifford, for the technical and creative direction!! Your support, guidance and patience got me through this challenging, but fun mentorship. I’d give you 2 apples (or cake) every day if I could’ve! :0)
I look at scenes with intention now.…when’s the best time to shoot, how it would look in different seasons or even processed in a certain way. I found that I learn the most when I’m out of my comfort zone and am learning to embrace it. Also, my comfort zone is getting bigger too. I’m more confident about my abilities and am producing more quality images and not just “flukes”.
Thanks again, Ron! You rock!

Check out the short video below (it’s like 90-seconds or so) which explains why Adobe is doing this unprecedented sneak peek, but once you watch that, here are the specifics:
Who: Tom Hogarty from Adobe Systems
When: Wednesday, May 1st at 4:00 PM ET (New York time)
Where: Live on “The Grid” at http://www.kelbytv.com/thegrid
Why: This is your chance to get straight answers straight from the source and to see a sneak peek of some stuff I haven’t even seen yet — but I heard about them— and you’re definitely going to want to see ‘em! (everybody will be talking about it on Thursday!)
See you on Wednesday!

Ron Clifford’s first mentor-ship has given me a great foundation for artistic photography. In addition to opening my eyes for the basic elements of photography, especially colors, lines, shapes, composition and the importance of imprinting our feelings into our images, he also gave me the confidence that I was heading in the right direction.
Without this basic knowledge and confidence I would not have signed up for a local Fine Art Photography class at Calumet University. Bob Killen, my instructor, recognized the potential in me, and throughout the class series he guided me to sharpen my photography skills, as well as encouraged me to freely use my artistic and designing skills. He helped me understand what Fine Art Photography is, and at the end of the class I was able to display my images at an exhibit organized by Bob Killen Fine Art and Calumet.
Meanwhile, I signed up for Ron Clifford’s seco... more »
