If you’re planning on going to see Star Trek: Into Darkness this weekend, there’s a good chance that you’ll see a special 30-second-long trailer during the previews called “Support Exploration: We Must Go.”
NASA is a government agency and thus not allowed to advertise, so others decided to do it for them. The Aerospace Industries Association partnered with the Challenger Center for Space Science Education to rekindle public support for space exploration. Over 1,700 people donated to make it possible to run the ad in 50 cities across the United States before the latest installment of Star Trek.
If you can’t make it out to the movies this weekend or your city isn’t one featuring the trailer, you can view it here: http://bit.ly/10KThrE

Due to an error with the altitude sensor, the Kepler space telescope has once again been put into safe mode. As of right now there is doubt to whether or not it will be able to be fixed, but NASA isn’t giving up all hope yet.
When Kepler was launched in 2009, it had four stabilizing wheels to keep it properly aligned. One wheel broke last summer and with another one out of commission, it cannot perform properly.
During its mission, Kepler has observed more than 150,000 stars and 132 planets.

One-Third of U.S. Honeybee Colonies Died Last Winter, Threatening Food Supply
No, it's not because of Oprah's Giveaway of BEES!!!
Multiple factors — pesticides, fungicides, parasites, viruses and malnutrition — are believed to cause the losses, which were officially announced today by a consortium of academic researchers, beekeepers and Department of Agriculture scientists.
“One in every three bites [of food consumed in the U.S.] is directly or indirectly pollinated by bees.”

A quick tour of what you're about to (or just) see(ing)
It baffles me how quickly and unilaterally Google is rolling out massive updates to its social network. With each new update, Google+ helps you find and interact with more and more content. This update is no different. Frankly, it's putting facebook to serious shame. Announced at Google IO today, I made a simple slideshow so you can check out the new experience you're about to have here!

Schmoyoho, the group behind the infamous “Bed Intruder” video, have just released their latest songified diddy, “Dead Giveaway.” The video features Charles Ramsey, the neighbor who heroically helped Amanda Berry, her daughter and two other women escape from captivity in Cleveland, Ohio earlier this week.
“I knew somethin’ was wrong when a little pretty white girl ran into a black man’s arms,” Ramsey says. “Dead giveaway, dead giveaway, my neighbor got big testicles ’cause we see this dude everyday.”
It is so damn catchy.

Maybe this can help some people curb their hashtag abuse.
#hashtagabuse
Presumably, most Twitter (and Google+) users use hashtags intending to add their tweet to a river of similar information and to expose their own thoughts to a wider, interested audience. Twitter itself markets the hashtag to those ends. But does that actually happen? It’s unlikely, especially for the most popular hashtags. There are many useful exceptions, but hashtags for big news stories are particularly vulnerable to mathematical futility.

Science Post of the Day
Today's Theme: Earth
Scientists have determined the temperature near the Earth's center to be 6000 degrees Celsius, 1000 degrees hotter than in a previous experiment run 20 years ago. These measurements confirm geophysical models that the temperature difference between the solid core and the mantle above, must be at least 1500 degrees to explain why the Earth has a magnetic field. The scientists were even able to establish why the earlier experiment had produced a lower temperature figure.

Google Plus Rules of Engagement
These are not the 10 commandments. Just a basic list of things you should consider when you interact with others and what to expect as a result.
1) Followers are not a free gift granted for completing your profile.
Unless you are a celebrity or a known brand you will have to build your own audience.
2) Signing up does not entitle you to interesting stuff streaming in your home page.
All you get it's "What's Hot". Probably the most overrated content in G+. If you don't like it, you can remove it with the tool provided.
You will have to build your circles, follow people that post things you like, get rid of or reduce the noise of people that post things you don't like with sliders.
3) You must listen before you ask to be heard.
At the beginning you won't... more »
