I went out last night to get a sunset
However as I got in my car to head up to the highest vantage point around me, I saw smoke billowing off in the other direction. I headed off to see what it was and when I got there it was a two story home on fire. There were already about 5 vehicles at the scene with many fireman already inside. Smoke was coming out of just about every window and door at the time.
I started shooting as I was walking over to the scene and here are some of the images that I got.
I processed this first image of one of the firemen who was talking to one of the residents that had been inside the home. I sat down beside her and talked with her for about 15 minutes and listened to her sadness. It was mainly focused on the fact that she had apparently lost her cat inside. What do you do when you have a late night craving?
Well, you look in the fridge and see what you have as an option....
hmmm I see ice-cream and I see root beer... sounds like a root beer float to me!!
It looked so good after I made it; I thought I needed a shot of it, so here it is was and a BTS shot from my RAZR cell phone.
As a quick setup, I pulled the rotating top off of a black pedestal I have and then set it on top of a little waste basket in front of the main part of the pedestal. I then needed some alternative lighting as it didn't look all that great with just the normal overhead light on. So I grabbed some black construction paper and rolled it up to make a snoot for a small halogen light I had in the room. I then aimed it at the glass from the side to give it a bit of life and turned out the lights... ~click~ here it is.

Baby Hummers
I rescued these little guys that had fallen out of their nest. I didn't want to touch them for fear of their mama not taking care of them if my scent was on them. So I got a cup from in the house and gently scooped them up one at a time and placed them back in the nest.
Hummers usually always have two eggs and by the time that they are almost ready to fly, they're way to big for the tiny nest that mama built. These were very tiny guys and you can tell by the shot that they didn't really fit in the nest anymore, but rather on top of it.
The good news is that they both survived the night without falling out again and then the next day they took flight.

Ladybug hunting for dinner
We all know how small a ladybug is, so imagine the size of the other critters crawling around in there...
I shot this quite a while back, but just stumbled on it while doing some file management. (at least trying to) Was a hand held macro in a slight breeze. I forget what my settings were at the time, because I added an extension tube on a so so lens to try and get a bit deeper into the shot.

Guess what I came home to on my doorstep?
Yes, my copy of the Plus One Collection 2012 which I was fortunate and humbled to have been added to. It's a great book as I went through it before taking the time to snap this photo. The quality of the images and the layout is very well done.
There are many great photographers and photos inside. Thank you to everyone that helped create this with your own images and time. I would especially like to thank +Ivan Makarov & +Andy Lee for the huge amount of time and effort that you guys have put into this.

It's not all concrete
Yes many would not have guessed that this is a shot taken down in the LA River flood control channel.
Sometimes we find beauty where we least expect it and this was one of those days last year on +The Google + One Year Anniversary Photowalk.
Hopefully I will find some more beauty on this years
+The Google + Two Year Anniversary Photowalk wherever I end up.

Cutie Patootie Bear
Pulled this one out of the files from +The Google + One Year Anniversary Photowalk that I hadn't yet processed. This was a candid kid sitting in a fast food restaurant that I asked his mother permission to take his photograph. She smiled and said yes, as he was kind of looking in all different directions. I made some clicking sounds with my mouth which got him to turn my way and I snapped off a couple quick shots.
So this is your early morning smile for the day.
( at least in my part of the world )

A couple of shots from a Borage plant. This was a new one for me that I hadn't photographed before. They've got a ton of character to them though and I'll be back to get it again in the future once I get my macro 100mm f2.8L lens.

Carefully Cleaned Cute City Cottage
Grabbed a shot of this old cottage in Old Town Tustin on a stormy day.
This residence is always meticulously maintained every time I venture past. It makes you feel as if you're not in the city at all.

Hang in there baby
I took a little stroll today over to house near by and grabbed this little guy.
I didn't think I would get anything because the clouds were just getting ready explode with rain at any time and was rather gloomy out.
I was actually checking out these cool flowers (have no idea what they're called) when this guy flew into frame. I had my camera on a tripod since it was pretty breezy at the time and was just waiting for the calmer moments to grab what I could.
In any case, I thought I'd share it and hope that everyone's having a great Cinco De Mayo and be safe.

So last year, I took on the task of the one year Anniversary photowalk by myself. It was exciting and fun and I had a good time in the process. I met many new people/photographers and some IRL. There was that time thing though of investing over 400 hours in the process to make it happen. I was able to give that time last year because of my job situation, this year is much different and I'm adding on some people to help along the way.
Today +Carra Riley joined the team to help me (and all of you) make the 2 year an even bigger success! She is now a moderator here on the community page and also on +The Google + Two Year Anniversary Photowalk page to keep this event moving forward. (and take a bit of stress off me) ｡◕‿◕｡
I'll be adding 1 or 2 more people in the future as it starts to get crazier the closer it gets to the day of the event. So welcome aboard Carra and thank you ... more »

So with just a little over 5 days ago when I first started this. we currently have 26 photowalks in 10 different countries signed up! Way to go you guys, I'm thinking we can hit my goal of 200 cities when all is said and done.

As the story goes, this was apparently a baby booty tree and has grown into this shoe tree.

Blue time
I went out this Sunday with a group of photogs to try and get some sunset shots at a place called "Little Corona Del Mar" in Orange County. We were skunked on the sunset due to the cloud cover, but got some other shots and had some fun in the process.
This was a LE of the Arch out in the water. The opening is not visible from this angle, but it is from various other spots.

Victoria Tower Sunset
I just processed this last night from a visit on Easter day. I enjoyed this area quite a bit and most people don't even know where it is. That goes for the longtime local Lagunatics. It is hidden away in south Laguna at a location called Victoria Beach.
It's not easy to find; parking is very hard to come by, you have a long walk down some concrete stairs to even be able to get to it and you need to check for a time that it's going to be low tide. It is not easy to get to the spot where I was taking this shot if not for the low tide. I changed out of my good shoes into some old beaters just in case I was going to get a bit wet, fortunately that never happened and was easy to get around under the conditions.
All that being said, it is very much worth the trip down there for the photo opportunities in my opinion. Some of the maps can k... more »

As I was walking down a pretty steep hill on my way to get some shots at Victoria Beach, I heard some noise coming from behind me. As I looked back, I saw two skateboarders flying down the hill. I dropped my backpack and pulled out my trusty 7D and fired off a few shots as they went flying by me.
This kid was trying to cut some speed as he did a couple of quick switchbacks on the narrow road. This is when he first cranked it over and then back again without missing a beat and kept on trucking.....
I edited in B&W because in this instance I thought the colors were too distracting.

Hidden Treasure
Early clouds were leaving me a bit apprehensive about getting any good shots this day. I was exploring the area for possible shots. There are many opportunities here and when I saw the clouds open up a bit and let some light cast down on these moss covered rocks, I grabbed some shots.

Slip Sliding Away
As I was watching waves crashing against the rocks along the coast, I looked over and saw the sun slip sliding away very quickly. I swung my camera over in that direction and got a few shots before it slid away for another day.....
Off in the distance that is Catalina Island that it is setting over and a low rolling fog in the water in front of it.
As I started to edit this I decided on Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel 2 - Slip Slidin' Away to listen to while I was doing it. ｡◕‿◕｡

Victoria Tower
Most people don't know about this place and the best time to try and catch it is at low tide.
The tower (and house above it) were built in 1926 for William E. Brown , a state senator representing California's 37th district. He sold the property in the 1940's to a gentleman named Harold Kendrick .
Some of the locals also refer to it as the Pirates Tower and that came from Harolds desire to dress up like a pirate and he would hide coins inside of the tower ( which is a staircase to the beach ) for the local children to try and find tucked away in the crevices.
The home has changed hands many times since then and one of the most recent owners was Bette Midler , however I'm not sure if she still lives at the property.
