Body clock: It's light out! Holy shit, wake up, we're late!
Brain: What time is it? Hang on, what day is it? Yeah, it's my weekend, rock on!
::epic guitar solo in my head plays me back to sleep::
I think my main focuses this weekend are going to be Etsy stuff and apartment stuff. I think the clutter is starting to gain sentience and plot against us.
Agenda!
- Star Trek at the only theater in town showing the "We are the Explorers" video (since I backed it, kinda want to see it on the big screen)
- Farmers' market
- Laundry
- Clean kitchen
- Get latest thread haul bindered up
- Cut out patches
- Etsy listings like whoa
- Ship Lemmy Koopa
- More house showings?
- Rewatch The Avengers for a blog post (and because it's The Avengers and who needs reasons)
- Paper flower time!
- Sta... more »

I have a coworker who has an adorable little Jack Russell/Beagle mix. He is super sweet, but very energetic, and her busy lifestyle cannot accommodate his energy. He is fixed. Here is her information on him:
----
He is a 25 pound Beagle Jack Russel mix. His was born on May 19th 2009 (4 years old)
Maxwell is good with children and other dogs. He is house trained and has never had an accident while he is been in my family. The reason I am finding him a new home is because he has anxieties about being alone. My job has recently got extremely demanding and I will be working longer and longer hours. He is a lovable dog that would be a great addition to a home that could spend more time with him.

Do you know anyone, or can you pass the word so we can find him ... more »

Twice now we have found a house we really like and are prepared to make an offer on.
Twice now we have been informed that the sellers have accepted another offer pretty much as soon as we've made that decision.
Apparently I need to find a TARDIS if I wish to buy a house.

Much better on the color. Getting this guy sealed off, trimmed up, and listed tonight so he can get off to his new home. Then I can get back to work on the Princess/Villains piece.

Lemmy Koopa commission. I don't like the dark orange, though, so I'm very carefully pulling it out.
Done for tonight, though, because the power has already surged twice. For all the hype, looks like it's just going to be a thunderstorm. Naturally.

Girl About Town
Quite a day today! Usually my Fridays consist of vaguely trying to clean and vaguely trying to write, but today I've got quite a lot on the docket.
- Chiropractor
- Three more house viewings
- Library
- Michaels
- Landlord to discuss lease extension
- Vaguely trying to clean
- Vaguely trying to write
Haven't decided whether I'm going to try to rework the first chapter of Fantasy MaybeSerial, or try to do some outlining/brainstorming on Chaos Theory. I probably just need to pick a project and go with it at this point.
Right then, need to get dressed and then hit the road.

Going to bed early because tomorrow is going to be very busy. In theory, I'm going to get up early and crank through everything. In practice, well, we'll see.

Been seeing a lot about the Merida redesign. I do agree that it's horrible. But it's not exactly anything new. The character designs used in Disney merchandise have been killing my soul for a long, long time. That certainly doesn't make it okay (I'd love to see this entire art style nuked from orbit) but it's not some new travesty, okay? Reversing their position on Merida still leaves this shit out there.

Le sigh.
Gave husbandperson my card yesterday so he could use it to pay at the post office. Had to get gas, so put it on the joint card and figured I'd balance it out later.
Got an email this morning from Virgin Mobile that they couldn't renew my account because there was a problem with the payment method. Go to pay on the website, same thing.
Okay, clearly Virgin is having issues, I'll call them after breakfast. We've been good about going out to eat since getting back from vacation a couple weeks ago, so we thought we'd splurge a bit.
Check comes, and since the total is about the same as I spent on gas I pay with my debit card.
Declined.
Call the bank, and turns out they spotted suspicious activity and sent out a new card on April 30th (shortly after we got back from Vegas). Weirdly, the card has been working com... more »

After the last post, I started poking through the archives of eater.com more or less at random, and I think I'm in love. They have the best epithets. Greek poets could not do better.
To wit:
Shouty chef Gordon Ramsay
Animatronic bobblehead Guy Fieri
Unflappable human Furby Guy Fieri
Bellissima.

I used to really like Kitchen Nightmares, because I just like Gordon Ramsay in general. But the American version is overwrought, overedited, and overdramatized, and it gets really repetitive really quickly, so I gave up. (The British version also gets a little formulaic, but it feels more genuine and is narrated by Ramsay and not Generic Voiceover Guy.)
This, however... This is another level. Ho. Ly. Shit. I know that a lot of these owners just shouldn't be running businesses, but I think these two should be in an institution. Seriously, look at her eyes. Something is not right there.

I am not what you would call "girly."
The only makeup I own is concealer, powder, and eyeliner, and only worn on very special occasions.
The only hair appliance I own is a blow dryer... that I use for my paintings.
I have one hairstyle, which is a ponytail.
I will wear the same pair of shoes until they literally fall apart.
I dress for comfort beyond anything else.
I can pack for a week's vacation using a single backpack.
Yet even I cannot deny the awesomeness that is a swishy skirt.

The only thing worse than a clearly and indisputably shitty day is an unremarkably meh day that leaves you in a shitty mood.
However, I have encountered the following things since coming home:
- Husbandperson who immediately remarked that I looked down and gave me a hug
- Husbandperson offering to take +Jaime Cooper's stuff to the post office tomorrow so I don't have to do it on my lunch (since the fuckers didn't have the small Priority boxes in the lobby when I checked yesterday NO THINKING HAPPY THOUGHTS)
- New Etsy commission
- White chocolate raspberry truffle Haagen Dazs ice cream
- emergencykitten.com (Thanks +Christina Parenteau!)
Up yours, shitty mood.

Had I actually gotten my shit together in college, I could have had my department buy this for me. But still, if I'm going to be doing a Wonderland pastiche properly, I need to do my research.
And also, pretty.

Once again, my G+ stream is flipping out, and will only take me a couple dozen posts back before jumping back to February and only showing posts from my Meatspace circle. (It's not my browser cache, because the apps do the same thing.) I hate when this happens, because there appears to be absolutely no way for me to view those missing posts short of visiting profiles individually.
I suppose this is a sign that I should be getting to work, huh.

Did another, smaller round of house hunting today. Saw one that has definite potential: not much of a yard and the bedrooms are a little small, but lots of good living space, a fabulous basement, about $6K worth of really nice appliances, and very well-maintained. Oh, and it's in Shawnee, which is confirmed for Google Fiber (though it's going to be a long-ass time; they're just barely getting started with building out the first round).
We're not ready to pull the trigger quite yet, but it does look pretty nice.

Iron Man 3: Spoilers Like Whoa
I did thoroughly enjoy it. It's been compared to The Dark Knight Rises, and while I can see that, I think this one holds up better. Be sure to stay through the very end of the credits.
I am now going to spoil the ever-living shit out of this movie. If you haven't seen it and are trying to avoid spoilers, keep on scrollin'. Also, please try to make sure that any spoilers in the comments are hidden behind the fold (comments longer than 10 lines only display the first 5).

Game Plan
- Go to coffee shop while husbandperson is at the chiropractor
- Finish reading Chaos Theory draft and start making notes for outline
- Fart around and kill time until the movie theater opens
- Iron Man!
- Michaels for more thread
- Come home
- Laundry
- More outlining
- Clearing some space on the DVR. Maybe Orphan Black, maybe Doctors Revisited, since we still haven't watched Three or Four yet.
The husbandperson is feeling gross, so I promised we'd take it easy so he can rest up and get better. Still, should be a good day.

MFW I realize that I haven't been writing not because I don't have any ideas, but because I have too damn many and don't know where to start...
I think I'm starting to get a handle on it. Fantasy MaybeSerial needs more time to cook; there's a lot of good stuff there, but I don't know if it adds up to a story. Watching The Tudors has given me lots of good fodder for court intrigue, but the soapy structure it suggests to me isn't really conducive to fiction, even serialized.
I know I'm supposed to be getting back to Untitled Mystery of Mystery, I know. But I'm starting to think it needs a lot more work, including possibly getting turned into Untitled Urban Fantasy of Mystery. (It's actually not that much of a stretch; I had originally conceived of it with shades of magical realism and abandoned it in the heat of NaNo.) Ultimately, I don&... more »

This makes me think of the ridiculous endnotes in Infinite Jest. They're in even smaller, denser print than the novel proper (which is really saying something), but you can't skip them because plot happens there. If I hadn't lived near Disneyland at the time, I'm not sure I would have made it through the novel in the 3-4 weeks I had for class.

I hate when I forget my sewing. My hands are all itchy now.
Game went well last night. Definitely room for improvement, but one person pointed out that it's not really fair that I don't have a "horrible first game" GMing story like the rest of them did, so I'll call it a success. And I can stop looking at nightmare fodder and decide what to focus on next. Methinks I might give Untitled Mystery of Mystery another look and try to get it out for another round of critiques. I'm not sure I'm going to hit my August querying deadline, but I don't want to start shopping something that's not ready just for the sake of hitting a self-imposed deadline, you know?

Got another batch of listings from the realtor. Husbandperson and I had the same reaction: to yell, "Holy shit!"
Still going to check out the house in person, because the superficial stuff is quite doable as far as renovations go. But still, what kind of retinal damage would make someone think this looked good? I know the '70s were an unfortunate time for interior design, but christ.

Today was a day of carpeted kitchens, ridiculously low clearances, $100/month HOA fees for decrepit neighborhoods, and incompetent DIY "renovations." But by far the weirdest thing we saw was this massive hexagonal storage shed with its outside door sealed off and evidence of electrical fixtures inside that had been removed. No idea of the story behind this one.
Out of eight, we got two maybes. Suppose that's not bad for a first day. And we came home to the maintenance guys fixing our A/C, so hurrah.
